Privacy Policy

Read our privacy policy:

Udall for Colorado ("the Committee") is serious about your privacy rights and about providing you with the information you need in order to protect them. Accordingly, we've created this policy to explain our privacy practices.  This policy applies exclusively to personally identifiable information collected on this Web site.

Information Collected About You

Personally identifiable information, which we refer to in this policy as "personal information," is information that specifically identifies a person, such as name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, credit card or other account number, and other information, such as demographic information or information about political contributions, when directly linked to that person.

Information You Provide:  We collect a variety of personal information about those who register on this site, make contributions through this site or use other functions or features on this site.  For example, when you register on this site for many services, we require that you provide your name, email address, zip code and date of birth, and that you create a user name and password. You may also provide, during registration or afterward by editing your profile, various optional categories of information, such as your hobbies and interests, as well as stories and pictures.

Also, when you make a contribution on this site, we require you to provide, in addition to your name, address, occupation and name of employer, a billing address and credit card or bank account information, and responses to a brief set of questions that we use to verify that we may legally accept your contribution.

Additionally, when you sign up for our email newsletter, we collect your name and email address.  We also collect your name, email address and the content of your message when you contact us via email on this site.

Information from Third-Party Sources:  We may receive information from affiliates or from third parties with whom we have business relationships, and may combine this information with the other personal information we maintain about you.  If we do so, this policy will govern such information.

Automatically Collected Information: We automatically receive certain types of information whenever you visit this site or otherwise interact with us online. For example, when you visit this site, our systems automatically collect your IP address and the type of browser you use.  Information may be automatically collected through the use of "cookies" (more information below).  We also collect data about your use of the site, such as the pages on this site that you view and the length of time that you view them.  We treat automatically-collected information as personal information if we combine it with or link it to any of the personal information mentioned above. Otherwise, it is used in the aggregate only.

Use of Personal Information

In general, we use personal information to provide the services and features on this site, to respond to your requests and inquiries, to maintain a record of your political contributions, to develop new services and to inform you about products or services we think will be of interest to you.  For example, we use your information to send our email newsletter to you, to provide our social networking services, to send you promotional materials via e-mail and postal mail, to improve our products and services and to develop new products and services.  When we use personal information in our internal marketing efforts, we provide you with choices (see "Choice," below). We may also receive information from third parties with whom we have business relationships, and may combine this information with the other personal information we maintain about you. If we do so, this Policy governs such information.

Disclosure of Personal Information

Information about our donors and Web site visitors is one of our most important assets.  We only disclose it under the limited circumstances described in this policy.  Personal information that we maintain is made available to others for the following, limited purposes:

To Comply with Campaign Finance and Other Laws. We may be required to disclose information regarding our contributions to comply with campaign finance laws.  For example, federal law requires us to use our best efforts to collect and report the name, mailing address, occupation and name of employer of individuals whose contributions aggregate in excess of $200 in an election cycle.  We disclose personal information when we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary to comply with campaign finance laws, other applicable laws or regulations, or a subpoena or other governmental request that we believe in good faith to be valid.

To Carry Out Your Requests. We also may be required to disclose personal information in order to carry out your requests when you use the site. For example, we will share personal information with third parties as necessary to complete a donation transaction or to deliver an e-mail to someone you have identified or when we disclose your return address as part of the service.

To Protect You, Ourselves and Others. We release personal information when we believe release is appropriate to comply with the law (e.g., a lawful subpoena), to enforce or apply this policy or our other policies or agreements, or otherwise to protect our rights or property; to protect our donors and supporters from fraudulent, abusive, or unlawful conduct, or if we reasonably believe that an emergency involving immediate danger of death or serious physical injury to any person requires disclosure of communications or justifies disclosure of records without delay.

To Support Democratic Candidates and Organizations. We may disclose selected personal information (other than credit card or bank information) to other Democratic campaigns or organizations for their use in campaign activities and other special projects. We require that the information be used only for that specific purpose.
Other Transfers.  Information about our users, including personally identifiable information, may be disclosed as part of any merger, acquisition, asset sale, debt financing or other sale or transfer of our assets, as well as in the event of an insolvency, bankruptcy or receivership in which personally identifiable information could be transferred to third parties as one of our business assets.

Network and Information Security

We employ a variety of physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to guard your personal information while in our control.  For example, we use commercially reasonable tools and techniques to protect against unauthorized access to our systems.  Also, we restrict access to personal information about you to those who need to know that information to provide services to you.  In addition, we use the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) protocol in appropriate circumstances on the site.  The SSL protocol encrypts information you input and allows you to view your information in a secure manner.

You should be aware that we have no control over the security of other, non-Committee Web sites that you might visit or interact with or from which you buy products or services. Further, although we use the safeguards described above to protect personal information while in our control, no systems can be guaranteed to be completely secure.  Accordingly, we cannot guarantee that your personal information will remain secure from unauthorized use or access.

To protect the confidentiality of your personal information, if you register on this site and obtain a user name and password, you must keep your account password confidential and not disclose it to anyone. You are responsible for all uses of this site by any person using your password.  Please advise us immediately if you believe your password has been misused or otherwise misappropriated.

Cookies and Web Beacons

A cookie is a tiny text file that is stored on your computer, but which does not itself contain any personal information.  We use cookies to tailor your experience on our site according to the preferences you have specified, and to save you the effort of having to log in or provide information each time you visit our site. When you visit this site, we attempt to access the cookie file that we have stored on your computer. We cannot and do not access any information stored in a cookie by other, non-Committee websites.

You have choices with respect to cookies.  By modifying your browser preferences, you have the choice to accept all cookies, to be notified when a cookie is set, or to reject all cookies.  For more information on how to modify your browser settings to block or filter cookies, see http://www.cookiecentral.com/faq/.

However, note that if you reject some or all cookies, your experience at our site and on other Web sites may not be complete and you may be unable to access or use certain content or services.

We also use "Web beacons" on the site.  Web beacons are small, graphic images on a Web page or Web-based document or email message that we might better understand your viewing preferences. These are small, graphic images on a Web page, Web-based document or in an e-mail message that collect the IP address of the computer that the Web beacon is sent to, the URL of the page the Web beacon comes from and the time it was viewed. Web beacons can also be linked to Personal Information.

We encourage you to review and understand third-party sites' policies, including their privacy and security policies, before providing them with information.
